Franz Kemper Appointed General Manager, EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH

June 20, 2008—Robbinsville, NJ, USA: EPV SOLAR, Inc., a thin-film solar module manufacturer and technology developer headquartered in Robbinsville, NJ, announced its appointment of Mr. Franz Kemper as General Manager of its newly established Senftenberg, Germany, facility. Mr. Kemper, who comes to EPV SOLAR with over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, is presently overseeing the facility’s start-up operations--including the hiring of management, engineers, technical teams, and more than 200 production workers--and will assume overall responsibility for the plant’s operations and profitability.

The Senftenberg plant, which is located in Brandenburg, a region in eastern Germany currently undergoing significant industrial development, has been progressing rapidly and according to schedule. A rooftop ceremony to celebrate the completion of the physical plant was held in April; the manufacturing equipment is currently being installed; and by October of this year manufacturing is expected to be running 24/7 to meet full capacity in 2009—30 MW per year.

Mr. Kemper, who holds a degree in physics from the University of Duisburg, recently served as Senior Vice President of Production for Qimonda AG, where he was responsible for production sites worldwide, serving about 17% of the global DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) market. Qimonda is a carve-out from Infineon Technologies AG, where Mr. Kemper was Senior Vice President of the Memory Products Group. He started his career at Siemens AG’s semiconductor group in testing and product engineering.

The Senftenberg manufacturing facility, owned by EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EPV SOLAR, is the next step in EPV SOLAR’s overall capacity expansion plan. Dr. Robert Bryan, Vice President, Operations, for EPV SOLAR, commented on the new facility and Mr. Kemper’s appointment: “The Senftenberg facility is of tremendous importance to EPV SOLAR. It will play the key role, for example, in the supply of 306 MW of EPV SOLAR modules to unlimited energy GmbH for use in the development and build-out of several solar parks in Europe. We are excited to have a person of Mr. Kemper’s caliber and talent in charge as we move to meet unprecedented global demand for our amorphous silicon thin-film product.”

Commenting on EPV SOLAR’s manufacturing expansion and his new position, Mr. Kemper states, “I am convinced that amorphous silicon thin-film PV has the cost basis required for market success in the industry because its technology is proven, its production is clean and cost-efficient, it is readily mass produced, and it is independent of dwindling silicon wafer supplies. I am pleased to be leading EPV SOLAR’s efforts here in Germany. This will be positive for Brandenburg’s development, for EPV SOLAR’s manufacturing capabilities, and for the world’s need for reliable renewable energy sources.”
